Episode 16

Hereford, Arizona Territory

As the sun rises, the US Marshall of the Arizona Territory Charles Mooney and the Sheriff of Cochise County Grayson Lockwood, along with County Deputy Sheriffs, set off for Hereford. They suspect Greg Lawrence and Edward Williams are hiding there. Greg Lawrence has been wanted for a very long time in several states and now Charles Mooney is trying hard to arrest him. Although Lawrence is said to have been seen in Hereford, this was not telegraphed by the local marshal, Bill Blaylock, to the US Marshal. This strange behavior prompted the US Marshal not to inform Blaylock about visiting the law enforcement officers either.

Of course, Doc Philips and Christopher Van Molen have also heard about recent rumors and are also aiming to grab Greg Lawrence. Christopher Van Molen arrived in Hereford the day before and spent most of his time there, staying in the saloon as inconspicuously as possible. Philips comes to Hereford with an one-horse carriage and will meet with Van Molen to subdue Lawrence.

Van Molen is fortunate enough to see Greg Lawrence sitting at the bar right in front of his eyes. As he sticks to the plan and does not want to take any unnecessary risks, he waits for his partner Philips, who now drives right past the entrance to the saloon.

Philips looks a little confused at Van Molen, who is sitting at the opposite side of the table. He did not expected the situation to catch a wanted ganster like Lawrence is to be so easy. He only wonders where Edward Williams is, whom he suspected was in the immediate vicinity of Lawrence, since both fled together.

Philips and Van Molen have agreed with eye contact to pull their revolvers to overpower Lawrence. As they both jump up, Lawrence do not stand a chance against both bounty hunters. He does not even have time to grab his weapon, which would have had fatal consequences, of course, as he would have no chance. At that moment, Van Molen sees the approaching lawmen through the windows of the saloon.

Barclay Lamondy, the Marshal of Willcox, is sure that the man sitting in front of him is the wanted Edward Williams and he command him not to move. Moments later, it will turn out that this is a confusion.

The posse have gathered in the city and are looking for Williams, whom they can not find there.

US Marshal Mooney thanks Philips and Van Molen and is happy they avoided a shootout. He is happy to celebrate the long-awaited success of finally seeing Lawrence handcuffed. The two bounty hunters are also assured that they will receive immediately their deserved reward for the arrest.

Bank of Bisbee chief, Edmund Belinzcky, Eugene Fisher and Tilda Tildesley are also in Hereford, as Tildesley wanted to get a picture of the city. They did not know that the money transfer had been raided very close to the city and that there was now a potential danger.

Hereford Marshal Bill Blaylock is outraged that he and his deputies have not been informed of the coming of the US Marshal. He had to know about such actions. Everything else is disrespectful and dangerous for him and his men. County Sheriff Lockwood tells him that he's surprised he has not noticed Greg Lawrence sitting in his saloon. According to Van Molen, Lawrence even rented a room there, and there are not many people in the county who do not know who Greg Lawrence is.

Lockwood tells the Marshals from Hereford that maybe it was just fine that they were not in direct confrontation with Lawrence. But it was just fortunate to have had the two bounty hunters in the saloon. Thus, Lawrence could be overwhelmed, without that a single shot has fallen. "Sometimes you just need luck or a few favorable situations that work well together. But in summary, this is luck! " Lockwood now has only the goal to find Edward Williams and will now form another posse.
