Mule Mountains, Arizona Territory

The Coshise County Sheriff Grayson Lockwood and his Deputy Elijah Cooper are making an observation between Tombstone and Bisbee. It was getting even more restless as it already was before in Cochise County after the stagecoach no. 6 was attacked. Especially in Bisbee you can feel how insecure the people became. Since the reward for Keogh and Stubbs has been issued, numerous bounty hunters have come into the area to search for the fleeting robbers to gain the 4000 dollar reward. In addition to the stagecoach robbers, some people also believe that Greg Lawrence is again in the area. Lawrence was the only member of a gang who wasn't masked during an attack at a money transport in New Mexico. One problem is that he is not wanted in Arizona. He would have to be taken prisoner and taken to New Mexico. The state is not far away, but the persecution and the subsequent transport are so dangerous that no one would dare to try to hunt him. Michael Buston got to know the consequences of being a bounty hunter who is looking for somebody in Cochise County. It is to add that far more untalented men have come into the county to stretch their fingers out of the reward. Perhaps the height of the money is an indicator of the difficult task behind it. The increasing presence of lawmen is also striking. "In Bisbee, no one is robbing a bank or a store anymore," Mayor Gifford is sure.

Francis Oury and Vicente Cárdeñas are now traveling to Bisbee without Auguste Delacroix, Ulysses Stockwell and Indian Charlie. It would attract too much attention if they would go to the city together. The inhabitants of Bisbee are already insecure enough and the City Marshals are sufficiently irritated, Oury says.

The two riders take a break because Cárdeñas horse had problems keeping the pace.

The bounty hunters are wondering if it would not be better when Oury would ride alone into the city. Oury is unsure and says to Cárdeñas, that he has not a good feeling when one of both would ride alone and it would not make any difference whether he or his Mexican friend rides alone to Bisbee. "The area is simply not safe and it is generally unwise to take a risk," he says to his Mexican friend.

While Cárdeñas and Oury are talking about their whereabouts, Sheriff Lockwood and his deputy are approaching in the background. The sheriffs are astonished and curious, who has made his stop in the desert.

Lockwood recognizes Cárdeñas and asks him if he is on the way to Bisbee to avenge the stolen cattle. The Mexican replies that he does not really exactly know what is happened and he is telling the sheriff that he has absolutely nothing to do with this incident. "But people out of Santa Fe heard about every single incident out of your county. Santa Fe is not just around the corner if you know what I mean, "says the Mexican bounty hunter. Oury tells the sheriffs that he wants to know who is responsible for the stagecoach raid. He had spoken to the coachman Robin Clements before, and he is sure that something is wrong here. Lockwood tells him that you do not need to be a specialist to determine that something is not right here. "Do not get me wrong, but people like you just bring more harm than good. You must be aware of this. If you really want to enter the city, of course, give your firearms at the Marshal's office. If you do not, you'll be temporarily in jail because you have not complied with the city rights and you do not want it, do you? "The sheriff says to Oury.

Lockwood tells Oury that he should be careful with all the information he has received so far. Oury asks him if he means information about Charles Gifford. "Even those of them." Lockwood replies. He also tells him that he does not like Gifford that much, but he can not imagine that someone in his position could be responsible for this robbery. He had only heard that he had dedicated Spencer Price for his personal protection. "Some people say Price is a criminal, but so far he has not done anything criminal here. Believe me, if he does something criminal, I'll lock him into prison! In addition, just because Gifford is anxious about his well-being and is committing criminals for his personal protection, that does not mean that Gifford is also criminal! " Cárdeñas replies, "You lock Spencer Price into prison, right? Well, I'd like to see that! "
