Episode 7

Shakespeare, New Mexico Territory

The Shackell family brings a herd of cattle from Shakespeare to their ranch near Deming.

In the vicinity of Shakespeare, Spencer Price is sojourning with Greg Lawrence and his gang. They got information that included the Wells Fargo stagecoach No. 3 with the proceeds of the Bank of Bisbee is obviously on its way to Denver. Because the men responsible of the Bank of Bisbee thinks a normal money transport would excite too much attention, they use a normal stagecoach.

Greg Lawrence knows a good place where the road is quite narrow, so it would not be particularly difficult for the gang to stop the carriage. During the moment the gang is discussing the attack on the stagecoach, Spencer Price suddenly catches sight of an approaching herd of cattle, two horsemen, and a prairie schooner. He comes to the idea that this coincidence could be more than favorable for the situation. Fortunately, the farmers are not far from the original stagecoach route. In all probability the money transport will also use this route.

Price and Lawrence decide to stop the farmers without using their weapons. As the situation seems to be hopeless – from the farmer's point of view – they have no choice but to listen to what the frightening unknowns have to say.

Lorne Shackell recognizes one of the unmasked strangers and says to him, "You're Spencer Price, I've heard nothing good about you, and I do not have a good feeling in this situation either. , I am sure, we have nothing what you are looking for. Please leave us in peace!”

Price replies: "Do not worry, but we have to apologize for changing your today's plan. We unfortunately need your carriage and your herd. You will be rewarded! So, do we have a deal?"

Shackell replies, "I do not believe we have a lot of room to play."

"Of course you will get your herd and the carriage back!" As soon as the sun goes down, you will find your carriage north of Shakespeare!”, says Price concluding.

After the cattle herd is positioned on the road, the Lawrence gang waits for the arriving stagecoach. The gang is positioned behind a curve, so the attack is as surprising as possible. After approximately an hour of waiting, the carriage will arrive. The coachman Edgar Powell stops the carriage before the herd in the last moment . The Texas rangers who monitor the transport will not have time to react.

All members of the gang are masked, only Greg Lawrence is unmasked.

Lawrence greets the arriving people with the following words: "This is a routine check, now you have the opportunity to hand over all the valuables you carry with you. The more cooperative they are, the faster and more peacefully this whole ceremony will take place. If anybody has a problem with this extravagant interruption, I ask him to get out of the stagecoach to tell us this."

Alvin Willits and Tyler Ruffner, who took part in the arrest of English Pete, get out of the coach and have to recognize that they have no chance against the opponents.

What you do not know: Billy Dodson, who has attacked the bank in Maley (Kansas) with his gang, has joined the Lawrence gang and takes part in the robbery.

After Billy Dodson arrives with the prairie schooner of the Shackell family, together with Greg Lawrence he loads the prey in the covered wagon.

Lawrence will later say to Spencer Price that he can not remember ever captured a similar high sum.

Liam Ashby will later went back to the farmer and tell them, where the herd and the carriage are. He will also have handed them a money bag with a content of about $ 2,000 to thanking them for their cooperation and the ensuing secrecy.
